Hi. I just noticed today that whenever I go into Display Properties, there are no tabs there. The only screen that comes up is the theme chooser.
I am using TweakUI and have also disabled the themes serviced. But it was find before today, and I haven't done anything specific today.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?!

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is to boot into Safe Mode, delete all the video card drivers, and reinstall your video card drivers. Reboot back into normal Windows and see if your tabs reappear. If you have a convenience utility that came with your card, be sure to install that. Sometimes they have settings tabs on them.

It is due to some settings in TweakUI. It was workin fine before coz the settings might not have been properly config....now you have to options.
#1) Undo the changes in the TweakUI.
OR
#2) Do a System restore to couple of days back.

I've undone the changes in TweakUI to no avail. And I have System Restore turned off!
I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling my graphic drivers through Safe Mode. Thanks

No matter what it is that has done it, access the registry and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies the folders you get in there (but the very) are 'Explorer' and 'System'.
Access each folder and set all the DWORDS to "0".
If you have trouble or don't know what you'r doing, go to www.regedit.com for information.
Sorted.

Turn your system restore back on. It will save you a lot of trouble in the future - especially if you go into the registry. Create restore points before you do anything to the registry or download anything from the internet.

This may sound odd but in that registry there isn't an explorer folder. Only a NonEnum, Ratings and System folder. There are three dwords in the System folder:
dontdisplaylastusername
shutdownwithoutlogon
undockwithoutlogonThe last two are set to one, but those shouldn't be the issue for the display setting tabs should they?
That website (kellys-kor...) didn't seem to make much sense to me either :-s.
I'd be happy to undo TweakUI's changes but I don't seem to be able to uninstall it and hence don't know files to get rid of from the windows/system folder, assuming that's where it was installed. It chose its own folder.

Hi av_3000,
As Chuck suggested (I've added his link again), go to the link, scroll down until you find 'restorealldisplaytabs.reg'
Rightclick it and choose 'Save Target As' to save it on your HardDisk.
Then browse to the dowloaded file with WindowsExplorer and doubleclick it to load the file into the registry. The file contains registry-settings that do what MAW was suggesting.

That sounds like it'd work but I tried it, and it doesn't affect it at all. I found the file, downloaded it, saved it and ran it, thus reinstalling those registry settings, but it hasn't made the slightest difference, still the same.

Here's a trick you could try, but I'm not sure it'll do anything:
Browse to c:\Windows\infFind the Display.inf, and rightclick it, select install... any changes?
You may have to enable 'Show hidden & System files' options in WindowsExplorer to see the file.

That too sounded like an interesting idea, but that doesn't make a difference either.
Does anyone need any more computer information to establish what the possible fault is?
I have another computer too which has the same operating system and is working fine if I can do anything to copy/transfer settings?

I won't rule out anything, but first try my last guesses:
The 'display properties' panel is just a program:
c:\windows\system32\desk.cpl1) Check the file's properties, make sure 'read-only' and 'hidden' attributes are unchecked. Try again.
2) Search your computer for the same file in some backup/restore folder and copy it over the original(backup the original first)

That doesn't work either, but I just figured something out!
There ARE tabs there. But they've become tiny and invisible. I.e., I can't see them but if I keep clicking, I can change them. And I know they're tiny because in the settings tab there's an "Nvidia" tab which has an icon on it. The icon I can see, but it's gone really small and all the other tabs are right next to it, as in a millimetre or so apart. So they're all compressed and gone invisible.
Now that's another problem entirely I think! So any other ideas?!?!
Thanks for all the help so far guys, much appreciated.

WOW - WEIRD !! But it seems too dumb to be some virus or stuff.
either the font-settings are somehow being misread by desk.cpl, or some registry-setting is causing this(I don't think that's likely, though - it would be extremely bad programming). Try changing the font/theme? Switch from XP-style to Classic and back?
Or, the 'tab' is an ActiveX-element, just like a button or textbox. So there may be something wrong with that element or the ActiveX handling stuff.(Check Microsoft's site) or try these:
START>Run, type this into Run-Box:
services.msc
Change the setting of the COM+ related services, apply, and then reset to their original setting:COM+ EventSystem
COM+ SystemApplication
Themes
Changes are reversible in there, so no harm.
This sure is weird, so no guarantees...

Aye you're right, no guarantess, no luck.
And I agree, very weird. I myself am an advanced computer user (or like to think of myself as so) and I'm baffled

Sorry to hear NoLuckYet !
This may just be a Windows' BUG.
My impression of desk.cpl as a whole isn't that good: changing the font-settings for example, is still buggy on my computer.Could just be bad programming of desk.cpl
The Microsoft site could have some more info on this. Possibly even a download of all ActiveX common controls, or Visual Basic Runtime .dll files.
Have a Happy NewYear, though!!

Thanks. It could just be, yeah. I've used it quite a lot though on my other PC with the same operating system, and I have configured every little thing! And it's OK on that. Guess I'll just live with it!
