cant burn DVDs

Hi im using nero 5.5.9 and it doesnt seem to recognize my new NEC 16X DVDRW ND-3540A as a DVDRW. when i go to select the recording tool the only thing on there is a vurtual drive and not my new dvdrw.
Is there a better program i can use?
also when i go under "my computer" my new drive shows up as 2 , a "CD drive" and a "DVD drive". What is going on?

Try the Nero Website. The list of drives they support is constantly being updated.
Version 5.5.9 is old. The latest in version 5 was 5.5.10.20 which may still be available as a free upgrade. The very latest version is 6.0.0.3
As for burning software, you are not likely to get anything better.

5.5 didn't recognize my burner either. Your best bet is to update to 6, which is what I did.

If you can't get Nero to work, CD Burner XP Pro is very similar and it is free. Yes it does burn DVDs. I currently use it with my NEC ND-3520A. CD Burner Xp Pro can be found here: http://www.cdburnerxp.se/
