I had wasted 15 CD's so far.. I'm about to throw the pc by the window, write errors and all... help please.I use Nero. But last summer my pc crashed, I lost the hd, and tons of files. Could my cd writer ( a LG 52X32X52 ) have been affected too? it reads everything, just can't seem to be able to burn anything and I tried different brands of cd's..

what is the error that is reported by nero ?
any error reported by windows ?
(right click my comp.
click manage
click event viewer
click system and look in there for an error
click application and look in there for an error)Find any thing ?

In addition to giving us any Nero/Event_Viewer logging info, can you let us know if this is a custom built system? And also what caused the system to crash? Was it a power failure/surge?
I believe that the laser used for CD Burning is more intense than when it is simply just reading. It is possible you could have an issue with not enough power from your PSU.
Have you installed any additionaly hardware? or hardware that would consume more power than previously? What is the total watts of your PSU and how many devices (HDs, CDs, etc.) do you have installed?
Additionally in many motherboard BIOSs you can boot in and check the voltage of your 3v,5v & 12v leads. If they are fluctuating a LOT or are below 3,5&12, then you may want to look at replacing your PSU.
In answer to your question, yes it's possible you have a bad CD Rom, and also if your system crashed due to a power failure/surge, then any of your hardware (and especially your PSU) could be compromised.
Easiest things to try first...
1) Check your logs for errors as previously mentioned.
2) Boot into your motherboard Bios and check your voltages. If you don't have that ability in your Bios you can install some software that will do the same thing. Try Lavaly's Everest Home Edition.
