cant boot windows

Hi can anyone help i have a dell inspiron 2200 laptop running windows xp pro recently it started to run very slowly to a point of nearly stopping so i run my xp disc in the laptop and it gave me an option to upgrade the system to i selected this but once it had finished it will no longer boot up it starts with the windows screen but at the point of booting up it flashes a quick blue screen then goes to the option of opening in safe mode or from a previous date that it worked of normal but which ever i chose it just does the same again and starts at the begining again i can format but i dont want to lose all my info thanks Mike

If you have not yet, Run Norton in Safe mode to verify no virus. Try to get spybot installed to remove any spyware. Worse case, rather than a reformat, try a repair of Windows.

And an FYI, correct grammar and sentence structure goes a long way when describing a problem. It shows us you're willing to make the effort to express your problem in a lucid and easy to understand manner. One continuous run-on sentence is VERY difficult to read.
