Subject: can't boot up windows xp proOS: Windows XP ProCPU/Ram: 2.4 ghz / 384 mb |
Comment: ok, here it goes... i just installed windows xp professional on my new computer, and after the installation, there was some unallocated disk space left over. so i made those into NFTS partitions (there were only about 30 megabytes each) and merged them with the primary partition containing windows xp. that's when things went wrong... it said that it had to reboot the computer to complete the tasks (merging the partitions) and so i click ok. then it restarted and completed and said to reboot the computer, so i did. now, when it starts up, it doesn't do ANYTHING... it just sits there with a blank screen. i was using partition magic 8 if that helps. when i boot up with the windows 98 cd (the windows xp pro cd is NOT bootable) and go on with the windows 98 setup, it says that there is a non-ms-dos operating system installed already. if i choose to NOT REMOVE FILES, and install windows 98, could i then upgrade back to windows xp and have everything the way it was? or is there a better way? PLEASE HELP.

Reply: P.S. when i try to run WINNT.EXE from the i386 folder from the windows xp cd, it says there are no swap partitions to load the files onto, becuase those were the unallocated spaces before i merged them and everything. oops.
