Hi all,

I've recently tried reformat and clean install of win xp pro on 2 machines.(attached to a philips 170s lcd monitor.)afterwhich, they were both detached from hte philips monitor and attached to a 22"inch Chimei lcd screen. It all works well for a few boot up(a few days.) but both machines refuse to boot to desktop after that. Always shows "No signal" after to windows boot screen, just before the "welcome" screen.

Is this a hardware or software problem? vga? monitor?

Thanks

Did you install MBoard chipset and other hardware drivers, including the video drivers?

Thanks for the fast response.

Yes, all drivers were installed. In fact, the very first thing to do right after windows complete installing.

Edit : except driver for both monitor as they both do not come with any driver.

Do the monitors work OK in the in Safe Mode?

In the driver software there should be some settings for primary and secondary displays. If you have both enabled and the wrong port on the graphics card is in use that could be a cause.

More likely though is that you are using the wrong driver or resolution. Try safe mode to fix.

Right, i almost forgot.

I did boot into safe mode, uninstalled graphic driver and reboot. It boot up fine. I reinstall display driver, but when i change to resolution 1024 x 786, the screen goes blank. and when i press on the reset button, it shows "No signal" again before reaching "welcome" screen.

Note : Both Primary and Secondary display are enabled(By default) as i do not know which DVI input is which..lol

"More likely though is that you are using the wrong driver or resolution. Try safe mode to fix."

I'm using Ati driver 7.1 (driver only) for both machines(9700pro & x1650xt) as i find this is the best performing driver.

Try disabling one be one. Your manual for the ATI cards should show which is the primary.

The "22"inch Chimei lcd" has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050...why are you setting it to 1024 x 768?

And why are you running ATI 7.1? Does that version even support widescreen resolutions? Version 8.6 is the latest...I suggest you try it:

I had the same problems with my ati x1300 pro.
If jams suggestion doesn't help, try using the vga cable. I messed with mine for days (with an lcd monitor) with the same problem. When I went back to my vga cable, it fired right up.

Thanks guys, all for the help.

I've figure out that the monitor is attached to the Primary disply(Manually disabled Secondary display in "Device Manager") and have update to Version 8.6 driver(Driver only). Will bring a new vga cable over my sis place this weekend to setup on that Chimei monitor again and see how it goes....
