Subject: Can't boot into Windows XPOS: Windows XP Media Center 2CPU/Ram: p4 3.2 | 1 gig ram |
Comment: When I attempt to start up Windows, all I get is a black screen. The laptop, will eventually restart. Safe Mode works fine. I've attempted a clean boot, a system restore, and several different video card drivers.

Reply: Since you say a laptop and media center do you also have restore CD's that came with the laptop? If that is what you used to do a clean boot and the problem is the same then it must almost must be a hardware issue. Contact the tech support at the laptop makers site. The most common reason for a slow boot is a bad driver. I can't say how that happened if you have a laptop. There is a thing on MS site about slow boot and how to find that. As always see event viewer for ideas.

Reply: It would be a gud idea to try defragmenting by booting into safe mode. See if this problem is due to a fragmented HD.
