Hello,
I created two partitions on my harddrive ansd installed win 98 on the first partition and was ableboot into it but after installing win xp on the second partition I can't boot into win 98se it just fstalls on the starup screen. Has anybody know how fix this if possible? Thanks in advance

No I didn't. Yesterday I repartitioned my harddrive in 2 drives c: and d: I first installed win98se on c: then inserted the win xp cd while I was in win98se and choose to install winxp on d: partition. I'm am able boot into win xp. But when I try to boot into into win98 from os choices I choos microsoft windows and then it just freezes on the win98 starup screen. here is the text from my boot.ini file
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows"

What is the file system on your win98 partition. Sometimes WIN XP will redo it in NTFS, making a boot into win 98 impossible.

I would do a re install of XP using the repair option
Start the operating system from the CD-ROM, run Setup, and then choose to repair
the previous installation. (skip the "Recovery Console" and "ASR" prompts)
This feature detects the old install when you start setup of the same version,and offers
the "Repair" ("Press '1' for...." on the second screen, after pressing ENTER for setup )

I looked for those files but could not seem to find I used search feature and indicated to look for system and hidden files but I couln't find. If this is my problem how do get these files back?

Interesting problem. You've done a textbook partition and dual boot install which I've found to be very reliable.
Some comments re above:
If you haven't three of these files then you wouldn't be able to boot into XP.
Perhaps in folder options you have the "Hide protected operating system files" box checked.Seems to be no need to repair XP - it's fine - it's 98 that fails.
Did you by any chance install XP as an "Upgrade" instead of a "New Install" - that could cause this behaviour.
If you were feeling brave you could use a 98 boot disk and run "sys C:" - that would take XP out of the picture so you could troubleshoot your 98. (You would then have to use the Recovery Console to repair your XP boot - info on my page)

Hi,
Thanks for help I did try using repair console. To fix my problem but it didn't work and also reinstalled winxp but still had the problem. I decided to just keep using win98 instead cause I wan't to run my old dos programs. I'll just use winxp when I'll purchase a new computer.
Thanks everybody for all the advice
