Hi,

I just cloned my windows installation to an external harddrive using HD-clone pro,

Now, i want to boot my windows on the extern, but i can't seem to do that..

I tried disabling all other drives ect in the BIOS but it either still boots up from the main harddrive or from the slave, So how can i make it boot from the extern..?

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks.

Do you have the option to boot from USB drive in the BIOS ? If yes, then make it the first boot drive.

But if you think about booting into Windows thru a USB drive, I do not know if you can do it.

That's wrong, you can boot XP from any bootable device which can be written to. XP cannot be installed to a USB device but will boot from it. The issue is probably that your BIOS doesn't support booting from USB, try updating your BIOS to the newest version. You can usually find the newest version from your PC manufacturers website.

If you could make xp system bootable on external hd, then you could bootup any other pc with that external hd too, like linux distro.
Remember M$ designed xp, just one xp system on one pc.

Well, i've checked the net a little and it seems that you cannot physically run XP from a USB device.. It's technically impossible.

Why?
Windows allways reinitializes any USB devices at boot, it switches them off for a second, ever noticed your keyboard or mouse leds flash while you boot?

This also happens with the external HDD so it's not able to complete the boot.

thanks agian.
