Please help me!

I am trying to associate a file type with a certain program. So I go to Open With and my program is not on the list...So I then click Browse and search for the file, when I find the program's file I click on it and it STILL DOESNT APPEAR ON THE LIST!!!!

This is making me angry. Any responses or help would be appreciated.

I am using Windows XP.

It might just be your terminology, but when you click search you are looking for an application that will open the file. For instance if you wanted to asscociate a text file you would Clicl Open with on text file then search for Notepade.exe.

When you have found the application, make sure you click "Always use selected programme to open this type of file."

Umm no, maybe you don't understand what I am saying.

I am saying that the file wont even appear on the list even after I search for it and select it.

After you browse and find it, the program should appear under the "Other Programs" list. If you then double click it, the program should appear under "Recommended Programs."

Hope that helps

Thanks for trying to help, but it doesn't solve my problem.

It DOES NOT appear under "Other Programs" or "Reccommended Programs." What I am trying to state here is that it does not appear at all even when I go find it.

Hi,

Are you sure you're doing it right? What you look for is not the file you are trying to associate but the "*.exe" file that you want to operate that file with. As Stuart said, the application. For instance if you wanted to associate a picture file called "jones.jpg" you don't look for "jones.jpg" but you look for the program such as PICVIEW.

Am I dumb or what?

Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, File Types tab. Find the extension to change, click on change and change it to the correct program. YOU MAY HAVE TO BROWSE TO THE PROGRAM YOU WANT.

Hope this helps.

Either do what Lisa says or this:

- Right click the file in question.
- Choose "Open With >"
- Click "Choose Program..."
- If your program is not in the list, then,
- Click the "Browse..." button
- Look for the program that you are trying to use
- Select it and hit the "Open" button
- Now you'll see your program in the list
- Click the "OK" button

Done.

Wow! Everyone here is a very basic computer user.

Look people I already stated that what I did, and you are simply restating it.

This is waht i do:

1.)Click the program, and select to find its association from a list.
2.)I dont find it on the list so I click "Browse."
3.)I then find the EXE of the program I want to use to open this file and click open.
4.)Oh my god it DOES NOT appear on the list!

Ok people please try to understand that.

If you are simply going to respond with some basic stupid instructions on how to associate file types, which I have already tried, and it doesnt work, then I suggest you go back to grammar school and brush up on your reading comprehension because you are just not answering my problem.
