Is the old drive bootable? I have formatted all 3 of the drives on my computer as NTFS and when I boot up with any old FAT formatted Floppy or CD-ROM, I can't see my hard drives. Try booting your computer with an old DOS disk or something with a FAT format. You might be able to access the old drive. I'm no expert but it's something that I would try.
