As stated, I can't access the MS update site. On Saturday I had no problem, but today I'm getting the 0x800B0001 error. I have tried the REGSVR32 fix from MS, but get a error box saying the files can't be found. When I try to run SFC /scannow, the box opens for a minute or so with no movement from the progress bar. I'm hoping SFC will find the missing files, I do not want to run a repair install. Is there a way to force SFC to ask for the CD and run? Thanks for any help.

As to the updates Go to the WINDOWS folder-SoftWare Distrubution folder and delete every thing you can and reboot. Go back to MS update site.

Thanks for the responses, Per. I had cleaned/deleted what I could. I didn't find anything on Elder Geek's site. Been searching Google and no help there. I already had my I386 folder in my System Root, but did not have the registry Source Path set to C:. I've changed the source path to C; kind of hoping that would wake up SFC, but all I get is the quick flash of a black box. I've tried in Safe Mode also. This problem is all over Google, but no solution. The computer is fine otherwise, and I installed the latest updates on Saturday, so I can do without MS Updates for now. I tried Sys Restore, and my restore points won't work (why did I kind of expect that, LOL). I can do a repair install, but hate to think of having to install all the updates again, even though I have them all burned to CD's. Can you think of anything else?

One last thing, in case anyone is reading this: When I booted the computer this morning, the SFC box came up on the screen. No progress bar movement, though, and after a minute or so it disappeared. SFC still will not run.

Solved-- I'm an idiot. When running REGSVR32 I was putting a period between regsvr32 and the file name instead of leaving a space. Got the DLL's registered and can now access the update site. I haven't figured out the SFC problem, but will worry about that if I ever need it again.
