can't access to my windows user's account

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 1.83 GHz / 1014 MB

,

I just experienced a weird situation with my laptop. I suddenly couldn't access to my user's acccount, while my husband is able to log in to his account without any problem. When I try to log in, a window pops out, and shows

" Windows cannot load the users' profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

DETAIL- The system has attempted to load or restore a file into the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry like format."

This message only stays for 20 seconds, and then I was forced into a guest account. All my data are gone....

I wonder what should I to to be able to open my account again? it was perfectly fine yesterday night... is it a virus?

Thank you very very very much for the help

See if you can log into your account entering into Windows Safe-Mode, then ...
Try System Restore to a date when all was good.
Start >All Programs >Accessories >System Tools

Using System Restore too many times can cause
more harm than good. After doing a restore
that does not fix a problem, then UNDO the
Restoration, and try another restore point, or
just do the UNDO.

... its always a good idea to scan your system with an updated antivirus!

... copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows
