Hello,
I just bought a new laptop, Toshiba. It had XP home and everything worked. I upgraded to XP pro using a disk and two big problems arose:
1. It wouldn't let me create a dial up connection and my old ones dissappeared. Fortunately, I saw a similar problem in this forum (regarding registry key 25 and 26) that fixed it.
2. OUTSTANDING. The laptop can't access the system restore application. It states "The procedure entry point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dllPlease help me. It is a new laptop.
Thanks and regards

At the Start/Run window type "cmd" and hit OK.
Then put the XP CD in the CD Player, and type "sfc" and hit OK.
You are now looking at the options available for restoring missing XP Components. Make a selection and don't forget the space between the sfc and the / mark.
Example C:\Documents and Settings\FJ>sfc /scannow

My internet via network card doesn't work as well. I went to network connections and tried - repair - but it stated cannot access the necessary files for this. (or such like).
Given that xp home was working like a charm before the upgrade to xp pro, what is going on? I am in a right mess because I can't system restore. I will let you know the outcome of your recommendation.
many thanks.

The cmd option scaned but nothing changed.
It still says it can't find the dll file and my internet via network doesn't work. However, I had opera (browser) installed as well before my this mess and that seems to work on the network. Also, windows automatic update is working in the background, downloading files. So why is internet explorer not working?
cheers,
CompUser
