cant access start menu programs

CPU/Ram: amd 2200/512

ok guys i dont know how this happened but when i try to open up a program in the start menu it wont open..
but if i go to my drive and program files it will work
also when i install something, at the end it will say "cannot create desktop icon etc..."
it probably has something to do with it
someone help thx! :D

It's probably spyware. Have you tried to run any spyware scan, like spybot for Microsofts Antispyware (all avaliable free on the net, just google).

just ran spy bot + ad aware

also sometimes when i stall programs
it says something like this:
cocreateinstant failed;...

See if they open in Windows
Safe-Mode. This option uses a minimal
set of device drivers and services to
start Windows. Hold down F8 during boot.
Logon as Administrator.

If they do open, the do the following in normal Windows to find the cause:
