I have 3 computers. 2 computers can see each other and their shares. But on my third computer (the main one) I can't access my shares from the other computers. Also, I cannot access the other computers shares from the main computer. The sharing has been working for months on all computers but I reset my computer, which I rarely do, and now it doesn't work. I can't ping my main computer by its name from the other computers. I have to use the IP address. When I connect to the main comp using \\192.168.1.100, it looks as if it was connected but I do not see the shares. I cannot see my main computer in the workgroup from any computer even from itself. From the main computer, I cannot see the other computers either or connect to them by name or ip but I am able to ping them by name and up. I have tried disabling all antivirus, antispyware, and firewalls, even on the router, and I still have had no luck. Virus/spyware scans found nothing, used multiple programs. Like I said this is all of a sudden, it has been working fine. Anyone have any suggestions? It seems to be a setting on my main computer. Thanks.

You said you reset your computer. What exactly do you mean by that? What does ipconfig show?

I mean I restarted it thats all. It is on 24x7. I use it as a FTP and WEB server so I rarely restart it. I was thinking it may be some update or something that my have been installed months ago.

If this is a home network:

Under my network places, view connections and then right click and select properties for your nic. Double-click tcp/ip in the scroll down list and select obtain ip automatically and dns server automatically. Click advanced button (bottom right) and select WINS tab. Under NetBios setting, select Default radio button and click ok. Click ok buttons to close local connection properties. Reboot pc and router.

Post another ipconfig/all because your prior showed that netbios was disabled. Also check in the advanced properties of tcpip that under the DNS tab, register this address in dns is checked.

I would also suggest running from the command prompt, ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew and finally ipconfig/registerdns. Reboot pc and router.

Ok I got some good news. Its getting better.

I checked the event viewer and I was getting NetBT errors which would crash the Computer Browser service.

1. I used the WinSock XP Fix. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsoc... to repair all the winsock registry values.

2. I also set my computer to be the as the "domain master" even though I am not in a domain.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters
IsDomainMaster is now set to True

3. Enabled Computer Browser and Windows Firewall/ICS services

The only problem I am having is that my other computers can't browse my shared folders with \\mediacenter. I can see the main computer in the workgroup now and I can access the shares with \\mediacenter\share. Drive mappings work so thats enough for now. I will try to fix this too and follow-up later. I thionk its a rights issue. Thanks for the help.

Alright, back up and running like normal. I just had to goto the Control Panel --> Admistrative Tools --> Local Security Policy and I "Disabled" the "Network Acess: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares". I also noticed that there was a program call "winupdater.exe" running. I deleted that from the registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and RunServices. This was also creating "a.bat" everytime I booted so this was definitely a problem from a virus and my antivirus was not running correctly. The virus also disabled my firewall. Hopefully this helps anyone with this problem in the future.
