can't access secure sites

After bringing my laptop home from the school network, i am no lnger able to access any secure sites from my computer - anything with a password or a private sector and i get a 'refused connection' in Mozilla and an 'unable to find page' in IE. the other PC's on my home network have no problem connect to secure sites w/o difficulty. turning off the firewall and/or changing browser privacy settings have no effect.

Summary: I don't know if you tried this already or not but... I used to do tech support for an ISP and 99% of the time when people couldn't access secure sites, the following would fix it... Start>Run then ty...
