When I try to enter regedit I get the following message. "The application has failed to start because ACLUI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I have tried accessing regedit via the DOS prompt per the Symantec site, but I get the same error message. I am trying to delete a W32.Bitzen virus. I also earlier deleted svcinit.exe and think that my inability to access regedit may be because of these viruses. Any thoughts on how to get back in?

I can't find anything anywhere referencing a Bitzen virus.. Are you sure that's what was detected?
To access the Registy, you could rename the regedit.exe file to .com and then open it from within your System folder. Be sure you know what you're deleting before you mess around with the Registry.

sorry... fat thumbed the virus name - it's w32.bizten
i tried renaming .com but still got the same message from the .com
am going to try the whole process again. any other thoughts appreciated! thanks very much for your response.

Last time it was like that,an Indian virus intruded my windows and I couldn't open Regedit.
"Ctrl+Alt+Del" to check any weird unknown process running, end such tack you will get back access to Regedit, then clean virus completely otherwise next restart will activate the same TSR virus I guess.

I don't know what you used to remove the virus, but I'd try this link:

There is a freeware version of Norton Antivirus that you can download and use for 15 days. That link is here: http://nct.symantecstore.com/0001/
