Can't access old HD after adding new HD & OS

June 13, 2009 at 19:33:42
Specs: Windows XP
I recently had a hard drive with XP on it, along with a 750 gig backup HD that had roughly 550 gigs of stuff on it. Today, I replaced the old original drive that had XP on it with a larger 500 gig and installed XP. Going through all the updates, installing virus protection, etc and I can see the backup hard drive in windows explorer and disk management, but it will not allow me to access it. If I click on it in explorer, it asks if I want to format it. NOOOOOO. In disk management I see the 100+ gigs left and the 550 used, and it is listed as healthy.

Any ideas?

All you need to do is take ownership of the old hard drive.

Thanks, but when I right click on the backup HD and click properties, it does not give me a security tab. Just General, Tools and Hardware. For Type it says Local Disk and for File System it says RAW.

Also tried Safe Mode, no luck
