Long story, but I had to reformat and reload XP Pro on a partition that previously had Windows 98. Unfortunately, I stupidly didn't think about the fact that I already had XP loaded onto the 2nd partition. So the new installation of XP took over. Now I can see the files on my 2nd partition, but the NTFS encrypted ones are not accessible. I know the password, I just can't boot into that installation. I've tried a fixmbr from the 2nd installation's "Drive" in the recovery console to no avail. Will formatting the 1st partition and then doing a fixmbr with the 2nd (original) installation help?

Right click My computer,Left click properties,Advanced,(Startup and recovery)settings, edit. You will now see what is there (with a bit of luck) you can then delete what you don't want. Good luck!
