Hey guys!

Just want to write this down for future
assistance to others having the typical
problem when sharing folders within a
network with WinXP pro.

So you shared your folder and you go to the
other computer and you can see the other
computer in the Group but when you want to
access the other computer to view the shared
folder you get the dreaded message:

"You may not have permission to use this
network resource. Please contact your
network administration"

Well, after trying a bunch of fixes, I found
out a simple one which many people skips in
the 1st boot of WinXP (in my case, in the
1st boot of XP I skip the network connection
wizard and inmediatly go to "folder options"
and disable/enable advanced folder views,
like hidden, system, file extensions, SIMPLE
FILE SHARING... sigh if I had known...

So I had "Complex" file sharing in my PC and
I granted all the rights to all the users,
yet I couldnt access folders from other PCs
into the same Workgroup. After trying many
many fixes, I decided to try this:

Go to Mi PC, then "tools", folder options,
and enable "SIMPLE FILE SHARING"
(yes, the one I disabled in the 1st boot of
XP) Grrrrrrrr.

After you have Simple File Sharing enabled,
go to the folder you have shared and you
will see the option that was preventing the
access from the other computer!! Apparently
This option is only visible with "simple
file sharing".

The option says:
"File sharing have been disabled for your
safety...enable file sharing using the
network connection wizard. or enable file
sharing without the network connection
wizard".

Obviously you will choose the second option
"enable file sharing without using the
connection wizard". then you select again
"only/just enable file sharing".

and after you do that, click OK and the
"share now" option will come up, and after
you click it, click OK to exit folder
properties and you will be able to access
the computer/folders.

As other fixes, you may want to Install the
NETBIOS protocol in network connections and
choose "NETbios over TCP/IP" in advanced
properties of the TCP/IP protocol as well.

And make sure that in the advanced windows
firewall options the "file sharing/printers"
is checked as "exceptions".

Well I hope this helps others.

Cheers all!
