Can't access FTP sites

Comment:
Whenever I try to go to a FTP site in IE, even my own, I just get a message saying the FTP session was terminated and I can't access the folder. This happens whether I try logging on anonymously or with a username and password.
I am behind a firewall so I enabled passive FTP but it still won't work. Any ideas anyone?

Very likely the firewall is blocking the traffic. Analyse the traffic at the firewall to see what is blocking it, and create rules to allow the traffic you wish.
Temporarily you could disable the firewall, but I never recommend that.
Make sure also that your FTP is not being passed to a proxy (in your internet options) since that could be a source of trouble, but at the least will hinder troubleshooting.
You also need to make sure IE can pass traffic on ports 20 and 21 for FTP access in some cases.
