I can't access a file on my local network. This is a file I have accessed many times in the past.
The file is on my desktop computer (XP Pro on a Dell Precision 450 with Xeon 2.4 CPU). I am trying to access it over the network from my laptop (XP Home on a Fujitsu Lifebook S6110, Mobile Pentium 3, 1.2 Ghz CPU). When I use Windows Explorer from the laptop to view the file on the desktop and to copy the file to another folder on the desktop, I get the message "Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use." When I try to open the file with WordPerfect 11, I get the message "This document is in use or is specified as read-only."I have checked the following on the desktop:
- file is not marked read only
- file is not in use (by any program I can see)
- when I click on “Properties” for the folder containing the file, it shows the attribute “Read-only” set. I then uncheck “Read-only”, click apply, the Read-only is then cleared, I click “OK”.
When I click on “Properties” again for the same folder, the Read-only attribute is set on again.
- when I click on “Properties” for the file, it is not set as Read-only.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You don't really say but I'm going to assume you are trying to open a .DOC (Windows Word File) format file.
The suggestions above should help assist finding what is the issue.
Another thing I would suggest checking is to make sure each computer can login to the shares properly. Perhaps a group policy change for 'users' blew up access to that share.
Good luck,
J.
