Can't access cdrom under winXP

My plexWriter 16/10/40A CDROM/RW suddently stopped working yesterday. I am running WinXP. I didn't know that Easy CD Creator 4.0 was not compatible with WinXP when I installed the CDROM. It had worked for about nine months flawlessly. WinXP sees it in Explorer, but when I click on it (drive G), nothing happens, not even an error message. I know the CD is good because I can open the file from my Sony CDROM. I have upgraded my Easy CD Creator to 5.01 after complete removal of Version 4.0 following the exact instructions from Roxio. When I try to burn a CD in Easy CD Creator, it says the CD media is not the right media. However, I know the media is good because I can burn it on another CDRW on a different computer. Any suggestions? Thanks
If it just quit working check if you can see it in the BIOS. If it just has problems writing see if it will work with the XP software. I have always used Nero so I don't know much about Roxio.

Thanks for your response, Bob. The BIOS detects the device OK. No problem there.

Boot your system while holding down F8. At the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select Last Known Good Configuration and press Enter.
Hope this helps. Bye

peter look carefully at the uninstall of ver 4 including registry links (incl adaptec) not just creative files overlooked them myself a few times!
Check the registry for the values mentioned in this article and delete them if they are present: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314060 You might have to reinstall Easy CD afterwards.
