Are you running SPYBLOCKER? Try uninstalling it and go to WINDOWS-SYSTEM32- DRIVERS-ETC and delete the HOST file. It blocks some sites by default.

I don't have Spyblocker. I just did a system restore...it didn't help either. Anything else?

I'd check the settings by going to IE Tools / Internet Options / Security. A very restrictive settings will deny you access to secure sites.

I don't know if you tried this already or not but...

I used to do tech support for an ISP and 99% of the time when people couldn't access secure sites, the following would fix it...

Start>Run

then type in...

regsvr32 softpub.dll

you may have to reboot... hopefully you're not one of the 1% it didn't work for...

On may 12 I performed live update on Norton Internet Security 2002.
This slowed my computer up so much I have disactivated NIS.
Since about the same time I cannot access secured sites.
Could these problems be related or is it coincidence.
Any thoughts anyone before I too start thinking of throwing my computer out of the window?

Last month I had two friends with the same problem. Both had Dell computers with 98 and some version of Norton Internet Security and out of the blue they could not access secure sites also causing them to not be able to download their outlook express mail. same set up for a few years on both computers, nothing recently changed. We posted places and everything suggested did not work. Finally someone told us to try an run a repair of IE and sure enough that solved it. Don't know how it got corrupt as there are no kids using these people's computers and nothing was touched but the IE repair solved the problem for them.

Happy AOL user for 4yrs.

Thanks for the additional tips everyone...but still nothing. Windows XP does not have a REPAIR option for IE. I am still losing my mind. It seems I have done just about everything.

I can't believe there would be no way to repair IE in XP, there has to be a way, that doesn't seem right but I have no clue about these things. I just know that when it happend to my two frineds at the same time that's what solved the secure site problem for them so something in IE got corrupt with their computers.

I have now resolved my secured sites problem.
The NIS liveupdate of 12 may must have altered my settings, which in turn must have done something even deeper in my system because I could not connect to secured sites even with NIS disactivated.
In NIS internet access control, scroll down the list and uncheck "block access to secure sites".
Simple... if you know how... and why should a Norton update check this box behind my back?

This note is for Sngbrd ...

I had the same problem accessing secure sites with AOL 9.0 using a Linksys network. I finally found someone who game me a fix that worked. If you are using AOL and a network try this ...

This is for those of you who have a Linksys router and AOL-DSL.
and then after upgrading to 9.0 couldn't get any connectivity outside of the AOL client.

I thought it was my router's Firmware, but it was only software configuration.

First type in the kW "home network"
Restart AOL.
I also rebooted my PC and my router and modem.

At the sign up screen of AOL.
Sign on options.
Expert setup.
Expand the Home network option.
Click on Home network (under Devices)
I had to click on it (under Broadband connectivity/options/homenetwork)
Then I closed and reopened AOL.

Under the "order that devices are used"
I have this order
1 Home Network.
2 AOL Broadband DSL.
3 Broadband (high speed.....)

Hope it works for you as well!
