Canon Printer prevents PC boot-up

If the power to my Canon i470D printer is switched on (not the printer itself) the Dell PC will not boot up.
If the printer is switched off at the plug then all works ok. However, it is frustrating to have to pull the printer plug out of the surge protection gang plug each time the PC is switched off. Help please.

That sounds odd. Have you tried temporarily running from some other multi-way board to see if that helps?

I'm wondering if your surge protector strip might be the culprit.
