The windows 2000 drivers don't work..They install fine but when I try to print I get nothing.......
Any ideas or help would be appreciated....

try changing the printer port setting in the motherboard bios. it sounds like some people have luck with it set to EPP. Igot mine to work with it set to "normal" (non ecp/epp. I get some BSOD'w with an app though

The drivers for Win2K work (you have to shut down your machine instead of doing a restart when you're asked to),but there's a little problem.When I try to change the printing preferences they still remain as before.I also tried to chenge the default printing preferences but still nothing.Any ideas?
P.S.The installation of XP was clean.No upgrade.

I sent an e-mail to Canon about this. I have BJC-5000 and I can't change the preferences either (which is really annoying if you want to print black only). They said they would no longer offer any further driver support for the 5000 series printers. I'm sure that makes everyone including me pretty upset since my printer works fine - I just can't use it.

I have a BJC-5100. It worked fine on any previous version of Win but not on XP. Same problem with the printing preferences, also it can't use photo cartridges etc. I wrote to Canon and they answered that this printer was not compatible with XP - BULLs--- !!!

I got mine to work (low res and banding)
1- get v2.20 NT drv from canon
2- unzip to c:\temp
3- shutdown windows xp
4- unplug bjc-5000
5- start xp
6- wait and then plug in parallel cable
7- xp says new hardware found
8- use c:\temp for the software location
9- it should now work
10- you can also run it on a networked win98 or ME computer

Correction to response #10:
1- should be Win2000 driver BJC-5000W2K.exe
v2.20
and
3- turn off computer for 10 seconds

MM's procedure worked, but did not improve the installation (I still cannot change the preferences.) Can you change preferences?

I have E-Mailed Microsoft complaining about Canon's lack of support. It ain't much, but if they receive many complaints, perhaps they can put some pressure on Canon.

I have ran into the same problem. I too can not change the preferences. I also tried the drivers that canon did make that comes with xp, such as the bjc 4500, 5500 and so on. None of these worked either. I think canon should burn in hell!
If anyone finds out any good news please let me know.

I bought a new computer with win xp, and I wanted to use my canon bjc5000, but cannot use!!! and there's no driver on this this printer which really works with winxp!! what a shame on both MS and CANON!!! Hell with them!!

I found that the D300UI.dll can not save the setting in the registry, so what I did is use a windows 2000 system to generate some differend setting and then in the windows xp just merge the setting that I whant. That works for me, I can now print in High res. or black and white etc.
For example this is the black draft settings:

Hi, I hate to be a bug to you..
Thank you for your great input on the Windows XP and the canon 5100/5000 issue. Amazing that the registry settings are the problem.
One question, can you send the settings you talked about and an easy way to update the registry. I am still a novice at registry updating. I do have access to a Windows 2000 laptop (if that would help my process).
Or if you can help point me in a good direction! :)

Ok, Nevermind.. I figured it out.. I was able to change the mode.. export the Registry entry.. and repeat. I have 7 modes saved.. and I just double click on the entry to change it. I have Draft/Std/High and also glossy paper..Legal..etc.
If you get stuck and need some of these, email me. I can not promise I can do whatever you request.. but I am going to try and put all the ones I get into a ZIP file so I can email them (with a text file). Wow.. it works.. Thank you MARTIN!!!
