I have a couple of strange problems... When clicking on the IE icon, it claims "iexplore.exe cannot be found". Go in the IE file-there it is! Click on it-message pops up asking if I want to download my hompage like it's a file! OE6-I can open it and get mails, but just can't read them. Clicking on the mails gives a message that says "one or more parts of the message cannot be shown". Click OK. New message says "there was a problem when opening the mail-not enough memory". I also cannot open "Run" or "Search" from the Start button nor can I open "Programmes".And one more thing, the My Computer icon has changed it's name to "Folder"! Works fine otherwise. Just don't get it. I have scanned with(all updated) Ad-AwareSE, SpybotS&D, CWShredder, HijackTjis! log is clean(will post if needed) and have scanned with my AV Avast!free and online with TM/HouseCall. Promblem came up after I un-installed Real Player-coincidence? Any help/insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks-Zel

Try a system restore to a date before you un-installed real player. Did you un-install using add or remove in control panel or did you just delete real player files?

Thanks Marty525 for you reply! Yes, I tried System Restore(2 different dates) and I did use Add/Remove as well. BUT! (and here is the big confession) I really dug in and deleted "hidden" files and folders, stuff left behind. I suppose I deleted way too much... thought I was being clever! I kind of knew I was playing with fire... Part of me wants to re-install Real Player then un-install and just leave it at that... What could it hurt?

You might have removed some system files - try system file checker - Go to start then run and type in sfc /scannow. There is a space between the c and the /. This will restore any files that are missing or have been corrupted.

Hi, were you able to solve your problem? I have one that is almost identical. I can run most of the applications through the run as command by unchecking the "protect my computer...etc box". I have tried anything I can think of and I am stumped. I did the sfc /scan now command by opening the cmd window (I went to the directory where the exe file is and right clicked on it, and used the run as command to open the dos prompt and than I just typed in the scf /scannow to run it). However it did not help. I hope someone here knows what is going on. I am sure the fix is something really simple I just can't think of it.

Hi gucio1.Thanks for your reply! I was actually able to get Start>Run to work again by the tap F8 at boot-up thing and going back to last good configuration. My Computer ikon even canged it's name back from"Folder" to "My computer"! I was able to run sfc with no results. I still can't access Start>Search, Start>Programmes, User Accounts(says I'm missing the compmgmt.msc file-checked and it's not there!) IE, OE among other things-otherwise I works fine!! Really hope I don't have to do a Clean Install...:( How do you use the command anyway?
