Cannot Uninstall Paint Shop Pro Trial

Comment:
I had Paint Shop Pro, trial version, which expired. I bought the full version on CD-ROM. I cannot install it, as it gives me an error that a previous version exists. However, I am unable to uninstall the trial version. I have used Add/Remove programs. I have deleted the JASC folder from my program files. I have searched the computer for files and folders containing "Paint Shop Pro," "JASC," and "psp," and I have deleted them. I have deleted the JASC software folder from HKEY_CURRENT_USER in regedit. I still get the error message when I try to install PSP. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this program??

If you bought the full version you should have som sort of support at Jasc, send them a email and ask.
Strange if not.

If you have not installed too many programs since installing the trial, do a system restore to before the installation date, and that should solve the problem

Thanks, but unfortunately, I used PC Relocator to move everything from my old computer to this one, and the trial version came with everything else. I did not have this problem when updating Office. I have contacted JASC and am awaiting a response. I am just afraid they won't help because uninstalling the trial version (completely) would allow me to reinstall the trial version for another 60 days and clearly they don't want to perpetuate that. (Not that I want to do this.)

Have you searched the registry for references to the program?

The only thing I've done is type "regedit" in the Run box and then I deleted the Jasc file from HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Is there something else I should be doing? Thanks.

Can only suggest you search the registry for all instances of paint shop pro, psp, jasc, etc

I believe that PSP needs to be uninstalled from the the install disk. When you reintroduce the CD (was it a cover disk pehaps) you should get the option to uninstall because it will find the existing installation.

When I insert the disk, Windows Installer tells me to exit the program and to use Add/Remove programs from the control panel. I have browsed through the CD-ROM and there aren't any files called "uninstall."

You might need to reinstall the trial version first, then run the uninstall from Add/ Remove programs. Maybe a registry cleaning program will help. There's one here that many people like: http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10115517.html?tag=lst-0-5

Hello. Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the registry cleaning program and it did pull up PSP, so I removed it. However, after rebooting, I STILL cannot install the full version from the disk. I cannot install the trial version again because I get the same error message (that another version already exists). I am still awaiting jasc to get back to me via e-mail. The tech phone support is long-distance. I am quite peeved at the moment.

It's fixed. Thank you, everyone, for trying to help. I'm posting the solution in case anyone else has the problem. First, you can go to www.jasc.com and search the Knowledge Base. I had tried this, but I wasn't searching with the correct terms. I was looking for info regarding "Try and Buy" (the trial version). If you search for "Uninstall," it tells how to uninstall PSP, period. It gives step-by-step instructions for uninstalling and then cleaning the registry. (I had done these already.) What worked for me was downloading the file at ftp://ftp.jasc.com/pub/ZapMSI.EXE. Running the program deleted all extra files. I could immediately install PSP after doing this.
