I cannot shutdown, restart or log off from the start menu. Nothing happens when I do this. Instead I have to right click the task bar, go to task manager, click on my user name, then click log off. Once this happens I wait for the box to pop up that asks me to log on again, and from there I can choose to shutdown, restart or standby. For some reason though, I can restart my computer from the start menu, but that's it. Anytime I want another option, I have to do all those extra steps above. What happened to my computer? I've had it almost a year and it start doing this maybe 2 or 3 months ago and it's getting annoying to have to continually log off this way. How do I fix this?

Good Luck Also you should be deleting your prefetch file about once a month, depending on how much you use your pc.

Hello there...first I'd run Spybot or AdAware. Then I would do a virus check. And finally I would press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and check under the PROCESSES tab for any odd programs that may be running. A co-worker of mine had nearly the same problem and it was because a file called ispynow.exe was running in his processes tab though he didnt have the whole program.

ALT + F4 closes the current display or window. On the bare desktop, I use it to shutdown or restart.

prefetch file? what is this?? I have a similar problem when I want to switch user or a certain user logs off. Can someone tell me what this file is and where it is located?
