Hi to all,
I am running an ACER 5100 notebook under XP SP2. I already ran successfully NTBACKUP, but now, it no longer works. The ntbackup.exe process shows up in the process list, but no activity takes place nor any program screen is coming up.
Any idea welcome !
Thanks in advance, Claude.

Perhaps a re-install of ntbackup is in order.

Install Acronis True Image. It is a resolution of all backup/restore problems (it isn't free but it is the best IMO).

Is a pity that 7.0 version is no longer available for free, it is rather better then winbackup=(

Hi,
Thanks to all contributors. I guess my problem is linked to the "removable storage" service which does not work. When I try to access the "removable storage" option in the administration tools, it simply hangs !
Any further hint welcome...

Did you check in services to see if removable storage is set to automatic?

Hi per,

The issue is that this service no longer shows up in the list...
It did in the past, as I had actually to set it to automatic. But now, it has completely vanished. Claude

Hi again per,
sorry, the service does show in the list, but I did not notice it immediately because my Windows version is French and the name is translated to "stockage amovible", and it is not running.
When I try to start it, it closes immediately with a message telling that no activity on the computer needs it.
And yet ntbackup is stil hanging (there is an entry in the event log for each starting).
So I am afraid I cannot do much more...
