here is my problem
on this partition, i can access internet, all i had to do was activate the connection.
on the other partition (where the internet worked fine for months), my internet connection just died all of a sudden an i dont know how to repair it. I am on a wireless router by linksys. All my settings are set to 'obtain an ip address automatically'. im not sure if this computer is the client or the host... when i go click on status, my ip address is something like 169.xxx.xxx.xxx (i dont remember the numbers), and usually it's 196.168.1.1 or something like that. i tryed window's help and support method, which is clicking on Repair... it said that it failed to renew the IP Address (which im pretty sure is the problem)... I resetted my router also but nothing seemed to happen.
im running on windows xp.... also, the other computers connected to the wireless router work. and this partition works... the other partition on this same computer dosent work ! well, im not very good in computers so i dont know how to give any additional information... thanks in advance.

Please be a little more specific... are you multi-booting? Is the router configured to provide DHCP services? Have you tried manually entering compatible IP/subnet/gateway/DNS settings for your card? Can you connect to the router at all? Have you checked to see whether an Angel has hacked into your machine?

Have you tried rerunning the network setup wizard on the "partition" that is not renwing it's IP. That in effect is telling you that it is nor getting DHCP service from the router. If all PC's on your network are set to auto obtain IP addresses then that rules out a DHCP service crash on your router because it works for the other machines.
You could go in through Device manager and right click the network card a remove it and then reboot the PC and let it auto detect it reinstall the drivers. Then rerun the network setup wizard.Hope this helps.
