cannot reinstall all-in one HP w/ xp....did it the 1st time around but either my hubby cannot remember how he got it to take the 1st time or it just will not take from now on. hp has told me to install recent drivers over and over again, but i cannot seem to get the pc and all in one to communicate. it always fails the startup test. help;-} thanx.

When printers are installed using the Wizard, the drivers are put into the system as ytou would expect. These drivers are resident in the system until phyically removed. The Wizard does not do this, even when you select REPLACE option near the end of the Wizard. I have know Lexmark drivers being installed for HP printers due to the fact that they were there in the first place and no ammount of selecting REPLACE DRIVER would cure it. To get back to a "clean" beginning, do the following:-
Start\Control panel\Printers&Faxes\
Delete all your Printers you have installed
Then go to FILE menu and select SERVER PROPERTIES. Select the DRIVERS tab, and you will see the list of all the drivers loaded into your system. Note that even though you have deleted the printers, all the drivers are still present! Simply select each one in turn and then REMOVE until all are gone.
Now close that box, and try adding your new printer combo. Let is see if it can auto detect it first. I cannot see your model in the list of known XP drivers (R45 and V45 but no T45!), so you may have to select HAVE DISC, at which point you will use the HP CD. This should give you a list of the correct drivers, it does have an XP driver. Install the driver, and do a test page and all that good stuff.
Now if all works,, then you are set, but if not,, the Parallel port may not be set correctly. This setting is a Legacy setting and there is also settings in BIOS to check too. I am not going to go into this at this time until you get back with the result the above:)
What I will do is give you are particularly long link that is for your T45 and communications:-
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?reg=&plc=&lc=en&cc=us&cat=setup&prodId=hpofficeje18440&docName=bpu08011.html#P91_8807
Yep,, long huh, but this is on the HP website, and does give a very detailed description of HOW, WHY and WHAT? ..:)
Awaiting results....:o)
