I just installed xp home edition on my computer from scratch after formatting my drive. However, I am not getting any audio, and i don't know how to fix this. I dont know the manufacturer of my sound card, but i know I have one bcos it was working b4 on windows 2000. When I try to use windows media player i get an error "no audio hardware available or hardware is not responding" can u help?

Click Start, then right click on My Computer, select Properties, then click on the Hardware tab, then Device Manager. Look for 'Sound, video and game controllers'.
If there is a yellow exclamation point then see what it says, you may have to reload the drivers or it may not be supported. If no sound card shows up there, then reseat the sound card and try again.
While you have the case open, see who the manufacturer of the sound card is. Then check with either Micro$oft or the Manufacturer of the sound card to see if it works.
You might need to toggle a BIOS setting for 'Plug and Play' which you probably didn't have it set for in Win2k.
You should also check the Event Viewer to see if it's giving any warnings.

I checked the device manager, and there is no exclamation under the sound, video and game controller tab. however there is an exclamation under the other devices tab for multimedia audio controller. When i double click on this, it gives me the option to reinstall the driver, but then it doesn't find the necessary files to install it. I would appreciate any kinda help.

If u r connected to internet then in the "upgrade device driver wizard" opt for "Microsoft windows upgrade" which will download an appropriate driver for u.

Geez, I have two problems. I installed Windows XP, and at first I could ping the servers in DOS with the numerical address, but it wouldn't connect with the DNS.
I somehow got it to where I can click on the IE icon and it will now access the DNS, and if I click on a link, it will also access the DNS.
However, I am having the same difficulty installing the sound card (multimedia audio controller device), and when I use the Wizard, and want to go to the Internet to download the drivers, it doesn't recognize that I am connected to the Internet.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Amy
