Hello,
My system was giving me problems so a friend of mine told me to reinstall windows xp pro using the install cd that I have. SO I did that, but now when I try to play any of my mp3's the system launhes windows media player and then media player gives me an error saying that it cannot detect any audio devices and won't play the mp3. Can someone please help me solve this problem?
My computer was built at a local shop and all I have is the Xp pro cd and a blue motherboard cd.
Thaks to everyone who took the time to read and/or respond to my problem.

Yes, check your Device Manager for any missing drivers. Put your motherboard's CD in the drive and then install your missing drivers.

If you have a sound card, the drivers will not be on your motherboard CD. You will have to determine the make and model of the card. You can use a program like 'SIW' to do that. Then a Google search should be able to find the drivers.

Whenever you load Windows from a regular Windows CD (or DVD) from scratch, after Setup is finished you must load the drivers for the mboard, particularly the main chipset drivers, in order for Windows to have the proper drivers for and information about your mboard hardware, including it's AGP or PCI-E, ACPI, and hard drive controller support. If you have a generic system and have the CD that came with the mboard, all the necessary drivers are on it. If you load drivers from the web, brand name system builders and mboard makers often DO NOT have the main chipset drivers listed in the downloads for your model - in that case you must go to the maker of the main chipset's web site, get the drivers, and load them.
If you have other devices installed XP doesn't have the drivers for, such as a sound card, or a networking card, you must install the drivers for those too. If you have the CD that came with the device, the drivers and associated software are on that - use the Install or Setup program on the CD.
If you don't have the CD, you will have to get the drivers from the manufacturer's web site and install them.
If you have problems identifying what the device is, tell us what Device Manager says about the device in it's error message or description. You should end up with no Unknown devices or devices that Windows doesn't have the drivers for in Device Manager.

Thanks for all the help. I loaded the cd that came with the motherboard and I got sound again. I now can listen to my mp3s. As you all stated the drivers I need were on that motherboard cd.
Thanks everyone.
