hello everyone,
having a bit of a problem with playing audio cd's with ANY player!
XP recognises that an audio cd is in the drive, but when i try to play in media player it comes up with the error "invalid MCI device ID. Use the ID returned when opening the MCI device"
I have no idea what this means for a start!
tried playing cd's through other players like sonique and winamp, but they just refuse to do anything, not even bringing up an error message.anyone got any ideas on this?
cheers in advance,
Injured Fish

Sounds like copy protection. Something embedded in the cd to not allow it to play on a computer. Do older music cd's play OK ? If so, it is not the computer's fault, it's a non-playable cd.

It's a fatal exception error! Here's what Microsoft has to say about it:
http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q191195

no, its not the cd... i've tried it with pretty much all my cd's, and none of them work!..
apparently my brother was playing with some audio settings in the device manager, but he maintains it wasnt his fault! (i dont believe him... ;) )the microsoft exception error doesnt seem to provide much help either, since i'm using a build in to the mobo VIA sound card..
confused? me too... :(

Bring up the device manager and double click the cd rom. In the window that opens click the properties tab and either check/uncheck "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device."
Hope this helps

Same situation.
somebody make correct win.ini and system.ini as below.
but i failed.in mci expantion, cdaudio=mcicda.drv
other case, pls check mcicda.drv in widows\system. in my case, wiped out.
