Cannot open .pdf files on my PC

June 27, 2010 at 21:49:00
Specs: Windows XP
I get a pop up that says "C:\Documents and settings\my name\temporary internet files\content.ie5\NISUEV7C\MYNAME.PDF" This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. I have removed and reloaded adobe reader but does not change.

On second thought....

You are probably are getting that message because you manually deleted the temporary internet files here, or you changed default settings here so they are deleted every time you exit Internet Explorer, or possibly other browsers as well....

Start up Internet Explorer.
Tools - Internet Options
You'll see either
Temporary Internet Files or
Delete temporary internet files, etc, etc. ....
click on Delete
If a Window pops up with Temporary internet files, History, Cookies etc., selected, you only need to select Temporary internet files - click on the checkmark in front of the others to de-select them .

Or - you used some program such as Registry cleaning program that by default or by your settings in it deletes the temporary internet files.

The line in msconfig - startup referred to in the next post is probably not finding the file at the end of the path, or the folder and file at the end of the path.

Hi there,

Type msconfig on run prompt and then goto Startup Tab and then look for the path you specified and uncheck the box in front of it. Prsss ok it will ask for restart..Do it. When windows start you will get a message select dont show this again checkbox and you are done...

Best of luck

On second thought...

One glitch with disabling things from loading in msconfig - Startup is the line is not removed from msconfig if the line's disabled in msconfig and the software installation that made the line is un-installed or deleted.
You can delete the line in the Registry only if the line is enabled in msconfig.

Two windows will pop up when you boot after you have disabled something from loading with msconfig
See more info about that and msconfig and the Startup lines in Response 4 in this:
