Specs: Windows XP pro 2002, AMD Athlon2600+1.91GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
I have an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1.91 GHz 1.00 GB of RAM, with XP professional, version 2002 SP3.
Everything else works fine, but I cannot open IE from desktop or startup, I have IEv8, by the way, and the free version of AVG 2011, and also spybot search and destroy, I have ran both of these and they say everything is ok. A friend of mine suggested combofix, but AVG will not let it run and I cant uninstall AVG 2011, to do so. researched online on my laptop, found Stopzilla, downloaded it, saved to desktop, then sent to usb flashdrive stick, to use on desktop, waited several hours for it to do its scan, it found 30 problems from hijackers to trojons, they got my host files, according to stopzilla, I was told and understood this was a free fix but as usual, found out differant.
My question is can I fix this myself for free properly, or should I take this to my computer guru?.
it's not that I am tight with my money, I just like to fix things myself, I do have a full version of spybot search and destroy, it's frustating to try to fix from the research I do online and the amount of time only to find, that some how you still have to buy something, Help! my computer has been hijacked, and don't know where or who to pay the ransom,,,,,,

Also download and install this program to clean up the registry. It's free and works well.

Try the above recommendation after booting into Windows Safe Mode with networking by tapping F8 at start up.
