Today, when I just tried to access device manager(from either control panel or by right-clicking on my computer), when I click on the device manager tab, it opens a Microsoft Management Console error saying "The selected file cannot be found". Im sorry but I dont remember the last time I tried accessing device manager. I havent added any new hardware/software to my system. I have also tried accessing device manager from safe mode but still I get the same error. My plug n play services are enabled (automatic). Can anyone please help me access/open device manager again? Thanks.
My System Specifications :-
Processor : AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (1.7Ghz)
Motherboard : ASUS A7N266-VM/SE
Memory : 256MB DDR
Video : Nvidia 64MB Geforce4 MX 440
Sound : Onboard Nvidia nforce

Maybe check to see that the following file is in
the following location:C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc
May need to have "Show hidden files and folders"
check marked in the View tab of Folder Options.

Yes, chuck 2!!! u r right. i dont find it . i even searched it by enabling view all files and folders and even show all system files. but still im not able to find it. i tried searching it manually and even using the windows search feature. but still not able to find it. do u think, by copying that file back into the system32 folder will allow me to access device manager once again? r there any other files that are required to open deivce manager? Thanks.

hey it worked!!!! thanx a loooot chuck 2. out of curiousity i downloaded devmgmt.msc from the net. i found different versions of it due to which device manager was appearing in different languages. but finally i got that file having filesize 32.3kb which was the one in english. thanks once again chuck 2. i never thought i cud solve it so easily by just copying this file into the system32 folder. i thought ill have to do sfc /scannow, repair xp or maybe play around with system restore to solve this prob. Thanx.
