I cannot open email attachments which are in text format, only graphic files. Any ideas? I have downloaded Acrobat Reader 6.0 but the documents I get are in .txt or some other formats.

Which Mail program are you using - Outlook Express ?

Assuming you know the dangers of opening Attachments anyway....

...what happens when you try to open a .txt Attachment ?

If you are using Outlook Express or Outlook, try this.
While in program (Outlook or Express), Tools>Options>security tab> Uncheck "Do Not Allow Attachments" and that should do the trick.

On the security tab there are no boxes to check or uncheck. Maybe they are some place else. I looked in Internet Options.

Where do I make the change which allows attachments to be open? As I said, the Security tab in Internet Options does not have any list.

I meant the Custom Level on the Security Tab has a list with radio dials checked and so forth, but none of them pertain to email attachments.

ferz, You need to open Outlook Express/Tools/Options/Security tab where you need to uncheck "do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus", click Apply, click OK. You should still have an Antivirus progtam running in real time mode though.

"I use Yahoo Mail. I dont use Outlook "

OK - I am not familiar with Yahoo Mail - but you must Download your Mail into Outlook Express - no?

"Where do I make the change which allows attachments to be open? As I said, the Security tab in Internet Options does not have any list. "

Joe said to go to OUTLOOK EXPRESS - Tools - Options - Security Tab - that is where the 'Do Not Allow Attachments....' is - NOT Internet Options

See if you can find that and take the check out

PS - Outlook belongs to MS Office - it is not the same as Outlook Express

Outlook Express comes with Internet Explorer....

..Internet Explorer is an integral part of the XP Operating System

Outlook is part of Ms Office

The Mail Program which you use is either Outlook Express or Ms Outlook

In your second Post you said "..I dont use Outlook "...

...from which - Joe - Post number 3 - assumed you are using Outlook Express and advised you accordingly

If you are using Ms Outlook then I can't advise you as I have never used it

Lesley - I have Outlook in MS Word, but I have never used it. I dont even know what it is. Why do I need it when I have email with my Yahoo browser? Does it replace the email I use now? Is Outlook the only way to find the setting that will allow attachments to open?

You don't need to use Outlook - forget about Outlook

I don't know how your Mail works because I have never used Yahoo Mail - but -

somewhere - on whatever you download your mail to - there is probably an Option\Preference relating to Attachments
