My grandpa is having a problem where he cannot move his song files into another folder. He's not so well with computers... so I help him out quite often, though this problem has stumped me as well.

He has wellover 60 gbs of songs that he's downloaded... and when he first downloads them, they go to a seperate folder. From there, he use to be able to move those files into the "My Music" folder. But now he can't

When he tries, he keeps getting this error:
"Cannot copy [NAME OF FILE]. the directory or file cannot be created."

I believe the files are downloaded to his D drive and his "my music" folder is in his C. is that a problem? Or can it be the folder simply not hold... over 10,000 mp3's?

So whats wrong? Its stumped me as well. Thanks in advance!

I think that he may have exceeded the file folders limit as to how much it can hold.

See if he can create a new folder in my documents and try to drag and drop the files there

actually I was able to move the files into a random folder I made on the desktop.

I never knew there was a certain limit... so is the limit on the number of files... or the file sizes?

Size Limitations in NTFS and FAT File Systems

"FAT16 and FAT32 volumes are limited to 4 GB and 32 GB"
"NTFS to create volumes larger than 32 GB"
So which file system are you running? NTFS or FAT

Hello everyone,

The 32GB limitation for a FAT32 file system is only if the drive was partitioned and fomatted using WinXp.

The maximum number of files or folders per folder in a FAT32 file system is 65,534 names. Long file names, 11 characters or more, will use more than one name.

Best Regards,
Mesich
