Cannot install Windows Installer 3.

OS: Win XP Home SP2
CPU/Ram: 512
Comment:

Following a repair of my OS I am now unable to install Windows Installer 3.1.
Looking at the MSI file I have version 3.0.3790.2180, the latest version is 3.1.4000.2435 for 3.1v2.
Unless I can get this resolved I am unable to download 53 updates.
What is the solution?

Have you tryed to uninstall the old windows installer first?
