If you haven't already, uninstall any printer driver, then delete the printer in the printer folder and "device manager list", if any show of course.

If it's a Paralle connection, shut down the computer, turn on the printer, plug it into the laptop and reboot. Windows should find it and then ask for the driver disk or hopefuilly, just install the driver that comes with XP.

If USB, turn on the printer and plug it into a USB port. Windows XP should "find" the printer as soon as you plug it into an active USB port.

If this doesn't work, look in "device manager" and see if any USB ports are listed. If not you may need to load the USB controller and hub manually. If you do,Write back and I'll tell you how.

Good Luck!

I have checked printer drivers in my XP Home.
Your printer model is in the list.

My printer is a serial port connection. The error message I get is -- This document failed to print, then it sends me to the roubleshooter. And now all of a sudden when I try to print a test page, my pc restarts itself.

A shot in the dark:

Right click Printer icon,
then Properties,
then Ports tab,
make sure a serial port is check marked.
If one is, try another.
Then another, and so on.
