I also cannot install Kaspersky antivirus on my new computer, It gives me a message about error writing to file C:\windows\system32\kl1.sys and asks to verify thet I have access to it although I was login as an administrator. I have OEM version of Win XP in Sptember and since that I have all kind of problems with it. Microsoft refused today to help me for free, demanding more than $70 and hang up on me when I tried to persue them that they have to support their product which is not working properly.

Do you understand what an OEM version of something is? In the case of WinXP your OEM version means the MSoft never had any obligation to give any tech support. They basically wholesaled the license to the OEM vendor. It is up to the vendor to support or not. If Windows came installed on a computer the warranty terms accompanying the computer apply.
I assume you think you may have viruses or some other nasties. You should have installed AV as soon as you got the computer. Try using spyware removal tools like Adaware 2007 and Spybot Search & Destroy.

These are Free Security Programs that I use:
AVG Free
Spyware Terminator
Comodo Firewall Pro
Windows Defender

Are you by any chance using ZoneAlarm firewall?
Was there another preinstalled antivirus program installed prior to your Kaspersky installation attempt?
An OEM operating system installation SHOULD NOT behave any differently when applying your own security measures.

I agree with response 4. Sounds to me like you had Norton installed before trying to install Kaspersky.
If so, go to the norton website and use THAT uninstaller to rid your PC of any norton. If that still doesn't work, use regcleaner:

and remove all instances of symantec and norton. Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!
