Well, I give. I have had AOL running fine until I upped my system to XP Pro -- now I cannot get it to install and stay working. I'll try to keep this brief. I installed a clean copy of XP Pro, reinstalled all my progs, and AOL is the only one that would not work properly. The problem started when my existing copy quit signing on. Gets stuck at the Connect with TCP/IP screen (I have a cable connection). So, I deleted it and started over after a reinstall didn't work. I cleaned the registry and started over, nada. Still the same result. I took the firewall off my connection, nada. I tried in safe mode, as the Admistrator, and even used selective startup to no avail. For one thing I was getting this annoying error that a file was not found, but the installation proceeded as normal, would let me log on, etc. and then after a few uses I would get the same error. When I downloaded another copy off their site and installed it as the Admin I thought I had it, no error, blah blah then get to the point where it connects and $#*(# same problem!!! stuck at the Step 2 connect, then the prog locks up and I have to end it the hard way. If anyone out there can offer a suggestion, I'll take it! I have eliminated all the usual suspects as far as firewalls, virus scanners, etc. Now I'm looking if my TCP adapter is configured correctly but don't know that AOL has any special requirements there. The worst part about this is I'm doing this because my wife likes AOL -- personally I think it sucks... ;)

Update: Here is an error report that came up after AOL bombs out. It says these files will be included in the report. I don't know what this dir is in relation to my regular Docs & Settings dir, but for some reason it points at these files. The files do not exist, I checked. I even changed the dir name and it still comes up like this. Anyone help here? Thanks
C:\DOCUME~1\BRIANJ~1.HOA\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER119.tmp.dir00\acsd.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\BRIANJ~1.HOA\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER119.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

got the same problem. I built a new machine, XP Pro, installed AOL 9, it worked the first time on install, came up and surfed, although it gave me an error message saying there was a network problem, then, subsequently, can't even get AOL 9 to start. It puts the little splash up, then says it's going to install necessary files to connect to the service. Then it wants to reboot. Reboot, then it does the same sequence again. Won't actually start. Then, I uninstalled, installed AOL 8 from the same disc, it will log on, give the error, then about half the stuff works, and half the stuff like Radio and Video, just sit there and makes blank windows or locks up.
POS!
