cannot get xp on Presario 1687

well here is the problem. i hope you guys can help. i have a presario 1687 (500mhz & 256mb ram) and i cannot get xp or 2000 to install, i get and error that there is zero "low" memory and the installer program will not run. i've tried running memmaker to no end, it will not complete. it tells me another memory program is already running. i'm stuck now on ME so please help me! i don't know what is running that is killing all the memory. thanks!

my suggestion is to back up all your important files and data, and do a clean install with the operating system of your choice. this is always better, because you don't bring any old problems to the new os.

i think i might have not explained myself. if i use the cd-rom to boot from, i get and error that there is "not enough low memory to run windows installer" i can run the install program in windows but once it reboots same error when it tried to load the dos based installer. if i use a boot floppy with cd-rom drivers i can get the installer to work but when it reboots same error. for some reason there is no conventional memory when the laptop boots itself.

well i figured otu what was wrong, took out one of my 128mb SODIMMs and now i cna install XP or 2K. WEIRD! aw well. thanks for trying to help me! hopefully someone can be helped by this someday! i've been trying to figure this out for months.
