I am trying to get rid of Windows xp and go back to Windows 98. No mater how I try and format my hard drive it will not allow me do do so. I have tried to use a win98 startup disk , then run fdisk, but it says c drive is already fat 32 and set up , When I try to format I get the message WARNING : ALL DATA ON NON-REMOVABLE DISK DRIVE C: WILL BE LOST!
Proceed with Format(Y/N)
I answer Yes then I get a message that says : Detecting Bad Cluster

If your hard drive was formatted as an NTFS drive with XP, then you need a program called DELPART.exe to delete the NTFS partitioning.
http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htmThen you can use the normal FDISK program again to setup FAT32 partitions. One, note however...if you have a drive >64GB, you will need the updated version of FDISK available from Microsoft.

you are in a trouble-spot it seems.to get rid of win xp you need a programm called PARTITION MAGIC, actually only the bootdisks you need.
then you will be able to get rid of the bootsector that was made previuosly and create one for win 98 which is FAT 32.only then will you be in the position to reformat your disk for win 98 with it's own bootdisk, which it seems you have.if you have more questions send me an email i'll help you through.

the problem is descirbed by the other..Partition magig is good!!!
But expensive
I have a free download called
"DELLPART"Add it to your boot disc and after booting start "delpart"
this allows you to get rid of your NTFS partition

simply boot to the floppy again and delete all dos and non-dos partitions. Create a primary aprtition (at least) and then boot to cd and let WIn98 format ~Sin
