Cannot find .exe files

Executables (.exe) cannot be found when started from any source such as desktop, menues etc. Messages of type "rundll32.exe cannot be found.." (in this case trting to start Add/Remove programs in the control panel) are returned. Similarly even helpctr.exe and even setup.exe can't be found

I seem to remember a virus that does pretty much what you are explaining, have you run a virus scan, not that that would solve the missing dll's.
To solve the missing dll's, run SFC /SCANNOW from the Start menu (note the space) that will scan and repair all system files, have your Xp cd handy.........
