Everytime I try to empty my recycle bin, I get "Cannot delete Dc2: Access is denied".. I cannot find the specified file anywhere. Virus and Spyware programs come up clean. I do have Norton Utilities Installed, Could this be the problem?

If you are running FAT32, boot from a win98 floppy and type:

deltree c:\recycled

That will delete the recycle bin. It will be recreated next boot.

If you have NTFS you might be able to do something similar from the Recovery Console. I don't remember the command to delete a folder tree in the Recovery Console.

Depending on the OS you have there are several solutions to problems concerning Dc1, Dc2, Dd3. The letter D stays for Deleted File or Folder, the next letter stays for the hard disk, the number stays for the order in wich you deleted the files.

On Win 98, ME, NT you can try this method, as explained in the microsoft network:

1. Open a command prompt window
2. Type cd recycled
3. Type attrib -h inf*
4. Type del info
5. Restart Windows

Try to empty again
DC1 is a folder that you deleted in the Past but for some reason the info file of your recycle bin has become corupt. The above will delete it and fix it.

If that doens't work, try:

1. Restart to a command prompt.
2. Type attrib -s -h recycled.
3. Type del recycled.
4. Restart the computer

On Win XP try the safe mode (pressing F8). You might have to switch more than once from safe mode to normal mode, deleting or restoring everytime whatever is possible.
Finally if you want to empty the recycle bin you might want to use the debugging mode as a last but consistent resource.
