Hi...I assume you are saying that when you click on 'download' nothing happens, except maybe a blank screen with an icon in the middle. I have the problem on my ME desktop and have not been able to eliminate it. Something to do with my OS. What I did find out that works is to RIGHT click on 'download' and chose the SAVE option. This has always worked for me. Now, my notebook with XP works fine the normal way.
Hope this helps.

Try connecting without using the router, That way you'll know if it's an Xp problem or a network problem.

Test your ram by removing one stick at a time and swapping dimm slots. Regards

That is a classic symptom of miss matched ram or ram thats on its way out. Also I've seen the same thing happen when a dimm slot goes bad. Regards

I have seen others say that you have your firewall set, preventing download.

Disconnect this computer from the router and connect it directly to the modem. Does this make a difference?

Hi Darren, the same thing happened to me six months ago. I had gone out and bought a memory chip that was, 256mb sdram pc133 and installed it. I noticed my downloads slowed down to a crawl. Then I bought a new monitor and it took XP 25min. to install my new hardware. So I took it to compUSA and they fixed it for 55.00 by taking out my old memory chip that was 128mb sdram PC100. Its worked great since. I don't know if this is your problem but it was mine. Jimmy

Lets start all over from the beginning.

Was this third computer just newly introduced into the network? Was it ever able to download before? Is this a new computer? If it is not new, where did this computer come from? If it was previously able to download, have you recently made any changes to the computers configuration?

Try this,
1-go to tools in IE
2-select internet options
3-select the connections tab
4-click then LAN settings button
5-make sure the "automatically detect settings" is unchecked along with the "use automatic configuration script"

Once both of those boxes are unchecked, restart IE and go ahead and try to download something. If you're going to jump down my throat if it doesn't work don't even try it.

Shut everything off. Go to the local bar and get soaking drunk. Start on it again tomorrow. It is always good to start off with a clean slate.

Good luck. I am out of ideas.

Sorry.

I'm out of ideas but since you reloaded XP I would have to lean towards a hardware issue. Have you tried hooking it up where one of your other computers is now?
Sometimes is hard to try to troubleshoot a computer thats not sitting in front of you. Stick with it I'm sure you will find your problem. Post back and let us know what it was. And remember this, "we are only trying to help you". Good luck. Regards

Darren,
I just had a thought. When you download a file IE asks you where do you want to save the file to and remembers where it saved the last file to. The last time you downloaded a file, did you choose to save the file to a floppy?
